Former Vida players share their College Tennis Experience

Parents of 4 kids
Veneto Club Bulleen

We have had our three children (now 4th) having tennis lessons at the Vida Tennis since they were each about 4 years old. We’ve noticed that they are somehow more prepared to take on anything in other aspects of their lives, they are confident, coordinated going into other activities (karate, swimming) & not to mention starting school. They have all developed strong friendships with the other kids and its such a nice network of parents on the day we attend. We believe starting Tennis lessons at such a young age has help with their development in many areas of life. The older girls are now ready to play Hot Shots Competition and what is really great, is we get to see how they all are doing through the Certificate program.

The Vida Tennis team has been coaching our three daughters since we moved to Melbourne midway through 2010. In that time we have found the coaches have been not only been able to develop their tennis skills but also develop positive relationships with the kids and create a great environment for tennis. From a tennis view point the girls have been able to develop their tracking skills, technique and movement which have led to Alisia moving into junior competition. The environment is very welcoming not only for the kids but for us as parents. All the coaches are very approachable and communicate very well. As parents, we highly recommend Vida Tennis and their programs for your children.

Angelo has been a great coach who has taught Adrian from age 10 through to age 16 (currently). Quite simply Adrian says Angelo is a “really good coach and a top bloke as well”. From my point of view Vida provides top quality coaches who teach children of all ages and levels to enjoy the game of tennis. Angelo is of course Adrian’s favorite, he makes his lessons varied and that’s why Adrian still attends after six years.

Our family has been at Vida Altona for 6 years. Our children love of Tennis has stemmed from a fun, though focused learning environment. The entire coaching staff are enthusiastic in what they do. Vida Altona have provided a great foundation for our children positive attitude towards Tennis and their own fitness.

Our family has been with Vida Tennis West (Altona) for 6 years, we have found Mark and his team to be professional, friendly and engaging. Along side excellent tuition in all facets of the tennis game, they have provided opportunities to make new friendships and foster a love of tennis for all generations. Mark is an exceptional coach who has a natural ability when communicating with children, and manages to teach them life lessons whilst providing a solid platform from which to build their tennis game. Lessons take place in a relaxed atmosphere where the Vida Coaching Staff are all approachable, knowledgeable and eager. Our children have always looked forward to their tennis lessons, and have benefited enormously from their involvement with Vida Tennis West. We hope to continue this association for many years to come and would recommend them highly to anyone wishing to participate in tennis lessons.

Firstly we love that it is all about the kids enjoying what they are doing and not about the parents. Because of this I asked the boys what they thought. They both said “everything” first and then Ben mentioned that he liked learning how to hit a ball properly and Sam said playing matches. David and I love the coaches professionalism and easy going nature and how well you all genuinely relate to the children on their level. We also like that it will hopefully take them to having a great sport to play as adults.

St.Kevin’s College

T.I.C. Tennis

I am writing this letter of recommendation on Vida Tennis. They have been working with St Kevin’s College for over 5 years and we have noticed a large increase in both participation levels and the quality of player we are producing.

We work very closely with Kane Dewhurst who is our Director of Coaching. He coaches our First Team along with working with our Year 7,8 and 9 A Teams. Kane has a been able to influence our boys tennis both on the court with ability and also through the way our boys conduct themselves around the sport of tennis.

We have implemented a very successful development programme in which Kane, Angelo & Ryan (other Vida Team members) run. Our boys from this squad are now flourishing with enthusiasm for tennis but also for success. Most of these boys will play First Tennis is the next few years as a result of this programme.

Our boys development was demonstrated by our win in the A.P.S Tennis Premiership in 2011. This was the first time in 16 years that the school has won this title. Tennis across all years levels have achieved consistent great results, participation and good sportsmanship. I can only highly recommend Vida Tennis to you.

Syndal District School Sports Association

Vida Tennis has been a great supporter of the Syndal District School Sport’s Association over many years now. They have made themselves available to conduct tennis clinics in our schools and have also given us access to their courts when required. Their clinics are always well organised, enjoyable and very professionally run by coaches who know how to build up a healthy rapport with their students. They also support our annual Community Links Sport’s Day, which exposes our students to a variety of sports, that they might not normally have access to. We believe this arrangement is a win/win situation for both Vida Tennis and for our students.

Milgate Primary School

Outdoor Learning Coordinator

I have had an involvement with Vida Tennis for the past eight years, through their association with Milgate PS where they have run Tennis Clinics as part of the Physical Education Program, where I am the coordinator.

Vida Tennis have run programs for our Yr. 1’s, Yr. 2’s, Yr. 3’s, Yr. 4’s, Yr. 5’s & Yr. 6 classes. The Vida Tennis coaches have always been extremely professional and approachable. They are highly skilled, extremely encouraging and have a terrific repour with our students. In recent years we have made a number of changes to our programs and these have included things such as use of low compression balls & smaller racquets for our younger students. These changes have been highly valuable and have allowed many of our students to achieve greater success through the programs Vida Tennis offer at Milgate PS.

I would highly recommend Vida Tennis to run tennis programs within your organisation and I know they would run a highly professional program.

Veneto Club Bulleen

Tennis Section
President Romeo Crema

Vida Tennis has been running tennis programs from the Veneto Club for more than 12 years. In that time they have developed strong relationships with various areas of the Veneto sporting Club, but particularly Tennis. They are like the furniture here at the club and continue to evolve their programs and provide a great experience for our members and non members receiving coaching. Its great to come to the club and see the quality of some of the kids, national and state champions, as well as the little kids starting out on the Hot Shots mini courts. We hope the relationship with Vida Tennis continues for many many years to come.

Steve Storer

Head Coach
Bendigo Tennis Academy

I have had a connection with Kane Dewhurst as he attended the Bendigo Junior Tennis Squad as a junior member. It was with great interest when Kane had completed his time on the circuit and decided to become a professional tennis coach I did not hesitate in approaching Kane to visit Bendigo to conduct tennis clinics. That was back in 2003. We have tennis clinics in Bendigo every year, our next being on August 18th in Bendigo. I have also taken a team of 14 players for a one week training camp at Vida which was a brilliant week of tennis.

The reason I invited Kane to Bendigo was to draw on his expertise from the circuit and to update the knowledge and work ethic of players involved in my tennis coaching program at the Bendigo Tennis Academy. This approach, in my opinion has been a remarkable success.

Kane and Vince Dattoli are leaders in the coaching of tennis, they are keen to share their coaching philosophies and my link with Vida has seen many players link up with Kane and Vince as regular clients.

The most notable has been Eliza Long a student from our the Bendigo Tennis Academy, I encouraged her to link up with Kane and the Vida Team this has seen Eliza become an 16’s National Champion, and play in two Australian Open Junior events at Melbourne Park.

From a coaching perspective Kane, Vince and the Vida team are always there to assist in the development of players, they are always supportive of my coaching program and encourage players I coach to continue in my program, as they progress through the Vida Program. I always appreciate that as a coach.

Pablo Eguiguren, Zhou Yi Miao & Han Xin Yun

Head Coach
Shanghai Racquet Club WTA Tour Coach & Players

To Kane Dewhurst on behalf of the two professional WTA players Zhou Yi Miao and Han Xin Yun: Kane thanks for your help during the Australian Open. We improved our doubles tactics, you gave us a good understanding of our court positioning and also how to plan and execute effective tactics against some quality opponents. Winning our first round and almost getting through the second was amazing and proved that your coaching skills are effective. Thanks again and we wish you and your academy players all the best for 2013. Happy Chinese New Year!

Each year I come to Australia for the Australian Open in Melbourne and get the chance to catch up with my long time friend who now is the director of Vida Tennis. Over the years I have meet many of the Vida Team, as well as junior players. It is great to see the team so passionate about tennis and supporting the kids to achieve their goals. In the 2013 Australian Open they brought the students to watch some matches during the Australian Open and filled half the stand during my match, it was great to play in front of them. I will miss coming to Melbourne each year once I retire but I hope there is a few more opportunities yet.

Vida Tennis has been amazing for our whole family and all age levels. For kids it’s all about fun and Vida delivers fun and skills all at the same time. My youngest started at age 5 and instantly loved the fun entertaining games while learning at the same time. When my older children began lessons their tennis improved dramatically in a short space of time. They loved how enjoyable it was and embraced the advanced techniques, skill work and the friendly atmosphere. I think Vida gives you a sense of empowerment and leaves you eager to learn more. Vida tennis has been fantastic for our family and we would thoroughly recommend to everyone including all age and skill levels.

Vida Tennis has offered a new lifestyle to our daughter Elise. Having experienced a shaky, unsettled start to Year Seven, Elise was low in confidence. Since the arrival of the Vida Tennis Coach, Dave Jonkers, Swan Hill has been offered comprehensive tennis coaching & in Elise’s case a pathway of fitness, fun, friendships & continued improvement resulting in increased confidence in her general life.

Elise embraced the squad lessons & individual coaching offered by Vida in Swan Hill. She embarked on a journey of rapid improvement. She has been motivated to play numerous tournaments around Victoria where she was able to gauge the level required to compete adequately. Even after comprehensive losses, she returned to her coach motivated to improve further. After match wins she did the same!

What Elise has acquired in passion! Passion to get fit via training & match play. Passion to meet other players around the State and create new friendships. Passion to improve her game. She sees a pathway to perform at higher levels and now has a real focus in her academic life and future. Elise’s goal is to one day receive a scholarship and study in a U.S College where she hopes to improve her tennis to a level that she can compete on the circuit. As parents, that outcome is not as important as is the goal itself. Whilst she is motivated & happy, we are grateful that she has such a focus & Passion. We are grateful that Vida Tennis has come to Swan Hill.

My whole family has been involved with Vida Tennis in Swan Hill for over 18 months now. Since joining, my young boys have been really improving and enjoying their tennis lessons and it’s been great to see them putting their new skills to the test in local competitions. Our teenage boy’s confidence and skills have improved so much that it has allowed him to be able to join the adult pennant competition, and play tournaments. His group lessons and his one on one coaching has seen great results. I myself as an adult have been taking some lessons too and I can’t believe the difference that it’s made to my game and my fitness.

We all love Vida Tennis coaching which is run in a very professional and family friendly environment, with the full support of the Swan Hill Lawn Tennis Club.

Get involved, you won’t regret it!

My 12 year old son has been having coaching lessons with Swan Hills Vida Tennis coach, David Jonkers since October 2014. John has Aspergers Syndrome & doesn’t like trying or playing many sports.  Since starting with Dave, there has been lots of improvements in John’s strokes. John really enjoys going to his tennis lesson each week, in fact he looks forward to it. Dave jokes with John, seems to understand him, (same strange sense of humour), they get on really well, & Johns tennis is improving each week, which as a parent with a child on the Spectrum, is all we want for our children. We want them to be accepted & to be able to do what comes naturally to other children, & have fun.

Ryan has been my coach for 6 years now and we followed him to Vida Tennis Essendon. His lessons are high intensity, fun and his knowledge of technique and tactical advice is better than any other coach I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t be half as good as I am now if Ryan wasn’t my coach. He cares about my development and he often takes the time to come and watch my matches. He definitely is the best coach! I love playing at Vida Tennis Essendon and even travel to play for the club as it’s such a welcoming and fun environment and all the coaches are knowledgeable and make playing fun.

I’ve recently starting training at Vida Tennis Essendon for both private and squad lessons. Ryan and the rest of the coaches have made a huge different to my tennis. I’ve improved a lot over the last few months and know that they will help me reach my tennis goals. Their squad lessons are always fun and I always do a lot of different hitting drills which improves my game in all areas. The private lessons I have with Ryan, Katie and Chris are always full of technical advice and I know they all want to see me improve. It’s always a fun and welcoming environment at coaching and around the club. I always look forward to the nights I have tennis.
