Vida HotShots Challenge Day
Arguably the biggest event on the Vida calendar, the Vida HotShots Challenge Day brings all 6 Vida venues together at the home of the Australian Open; Melbourne Park. That's right your children get to play on the AO courts including the 3000 seat Showcourt 3.
Players represent their Vida venue in a series of round robin doubles matches and off court activities to claim points for their team. With over 200 players from 6 venues the enthusiasm and energy is infectious.
Each player will receive a team hat and are encouraged to suit up in their club colours as a sign of unity.
Keep and eye out for an email when registrations are open.
AO Kids on Court Experience
Would you like to play on Rod Laver Arena? meet Novak Djokovic? get interviewed on Live TV?
Every year during the Australian Open, some lucky Vida kids from all our venues have the opportunity to have an on-court playing experience. As part of the ANZ Hots Shots program, kids will play tennis on the Australian Open court before the first match of the day. The kids will play for approx 20 to 30 minutes and then one of the kids on the court will have the opportunity to toss the coin at the start of the match. A parent and the child is then free to stay for the day and watch some world class tennis and experience all of what the Australian Open has to offer.
Here's a video of past years and what to expect on the day. Registration will be open in November
Skyler the Vida Coin Toss Kid goes Viral
Each year as part of the ANZ Hot Shots Kids on Court experience kids from Vida Tennis's coaching program get the opportunity to play on the courts at the Australian Open before matches start.
Skyler, who have tennis lessons at MCC Glen Iris, then got the opportunity to toss the coin for the first match of the day on Margaret Court Arena. You can see from the following video what happened next.
His video has been viewed over 1,000,000 times and he is currently in need of a good manager after his appearances on radio, tv and in print. It was also great to see Ash Williams, who plays Tennis with us at the Veneto Club in Bulleen interviewing him.
Thanks to the Tennis Australia Hot Shots team for giving kids an amazing life experience.
A meeting with Novak Djokovic
As part of the Kids On Court Experience, 10 luck Vida players had the opportunity to practice and spend some time with Novak Djokovic.

Ella off to Beijing after Aus Open Ballkids Top Gun was announced
January 2019 saw Novak Djokovic winning his 7th Australian Open in a straight-sets victory over Rafael Nadal and Naomi Osaka moving to number 1 in the world after her victory. A major part of the grand slam running smoothly is the 360 ball boys and girls that lend their skills and time to the event as ball kids.
The ball kids team included a significant number of Vida students from a range of clubs between the age of 12 to 16. To be selected for such a significant worldwide sporting event out of the hundreds who tried out is a monumental achievement and the Vida family would like to congratulate all of these boys and girls on their efforts.
A very special mention must go to MCC Glen Iris Valley’s Ella Wallace who has been a part of Vida’s coaching program since she the age of six and has just completed her fourth year as a ball girl. This year at the age of 15, Ella was awarded runner up Top Gun out of all girls at the open. This incredible achievement gave Ella the opportunity to travel to Beijing and ballgirl at the China Open for ten days. The trip overseas in late September 2019 was a much-deserved reward for all of Ella’s hard work and we at Vida are all extremely proud of her efforts.
Junior Development & Performance
Serving Masterclass with Serena Williams
Six lucky Vida players had the opportunity of meeting and have a serving Master Class with Serena Williams.
Vida partnered with the Gatorade team to set up a half size tennis court in the carpark at Woolworths Ashburton.
Serena was joined by Gatorade ambassadors Luke Hodge, Joel Selwood and Peter Siddle to test their serving skills against the Vida kids.
It was a great opportunity for the players to meet some of their sporting heroes.
Here are some snaps from the day.
Would you like to travel like a pro? If yes, then Vida tournament camps are for you. Each holiday period provide the opportunity for players to travel to various tournaments around Victoria and Australia.
All players involved will learn what it’s like to travel to a tournament with a team; working together and supporting each other while, training, and playing matches. It is an amazing learning experience, helping to foster an environment for boys & girls to get the best out of themselves.
Players will be grouped into accommodation based on their gender and age to ensure they feel comfortable away from home.
Apart from the tennis players will have the opportunity to visit local attractions and join in activities such as mini golf and bowling.

USA Tennis Camp Experience
Chasing Summer with Vida Operations Manager Leon Van Voorthuizen
Winter is coming and that means it’s time for me to fly North in search of warmer temperatures and longer days on the courts. Once again, I will be returning to take up my position as Tennis Director at Windridge Tennis and Sports Camps in Roxbury, Vermont, USA.
Since joining Vida in September 2018, I have met some amazing individuals and have been inspired by the culture of Vida, and its goal of creating life opportunities through tennis.
Tennis has allowed me to travel the world and over the last 4 years it has allowed me to impact over 60 coaches and 600 players at Windridge.
This year Cian Brien, the Head Coach from Altona Tennis Club will be joining me on the courts as we bring Vida and Windridge together. Over the course of the Summer (Aussie winter) we will be posting about our adventures on our social media platforms and we invite you to follow the journey.
The upcoming Summer will be the 52nd at Windridge. Apart from tennis, Windridge offers expert instruction in horse riding and soccer as well as an extensive electives program filled with activities such as a high ropes challenge course, archery, golf and mountain biking.
My goal for 2020 and beyond is to provide an opportunity for Vida players to travel to the US with me to immerse themselves in a 3 week summer camp session.
Here is a short video about life at Windridge.
