ERT Veneto Club Junior Competition – Winter 2019 Update

We have now crossed the half-way point of the ERT Veneto Club Junior Competition season, so let’s check out how the Veneto Club teams are tracking. We have four teams in the Eastern Region Tennis 2019 winter season.

Open Rubbers 6

This is the first time we have entered a team in this section. The team is made up of premiership player from Girls Section 2 Jaymie Skoufis and Jessica Nolan, plus the new addition of Alex Napoleone. The girls are currently sitting on top of the ladder on 41 points and 152%, leading Doncaster on 39 points and 117%. There are 5 games left in the season with the top 2 teams (out of 6) playing in the Grand Final on the 8th of September.

Boy’s Section 1

The boy’s team consists of four premiership players from Boy’s Section 2 last season, Juliano Sticca, Karl Schweiger, Adam Scutella and Ari Pilikidis. Currently, the Boy’s are sitting 7th on the ladder, but from 3rd – 7th there is only eight points the difference. There are 4 games left and then semi-finals on the 1st of September which requires the top 4 teams. The Boy’s can still make the finals with some victories late in the season.

Girl’s Section 2

The girls are coming off a heartbreaking loss in the Girl’s section 3 grand final last season. The sets and games were all level after all 6 sets and it came down to a 10 point super tie-breaker with St. Dominics winning 10-7. Scarlett Dattoli, Nikki Casauri, Alex Jennings and Mikaela Orland all moved up with St Dominics to Girl’s Section 2 and are currently sitting 2nd on the ladder seeking redemption (40 points and 173%). East Camberwell are on top with 43 points and 157%. There are 5 games left of the season with the top 2 teams advancing to the grand final (out of 6).

The boy’s team is made up of Hayden Teh, Mack Seabrook and Hamish Keenan. The boys started off slow but have had a strong middle part of the season and are now sitting 2nd on the ladder on 26 points and 125%. St Marys is on top (26.5 points) with 5 games to go. Can the boys finish strong to earn top position at the end of the season? Top 4 make finals with 8 teams in the JDC 3 section.
